Film manufacturer HAVERKAMP heralds the next generation of protective measures for building glazing with new bird protection film

Integration of the pattern into the film laminate ensures greater reliability with even more transparency

Film manufacturer HAVERKAMP has launched a new bird protection film on the market that offers even more advantages in terms of durability, appearance and reliability. "Millions of birds still collide with glass façades every year. This is a problem that continues to challenge planners, building owners, operators and contractors," says Ulrich Haverkamp, founder and Managing Director of the film technology company. "Many existing solutions have reached their limits, particularly when it comes to durability and reliability. This is where we started."

The actual innovation is in the film laminate itself. The film experts from Münster are heralding the next generation of window films to protect against bird strike on building glazing. HAVERKAMP has developed a very discreet, silver-reflective dot pattern for its new film, which meets the increasing customer demand for greater transparency and less conspicuousness, but at the same time retains the highly effective protection of the previous bird protection films against bird strike. The film itself is transparent and the laminated dots each have a diameter of just 9 millimetres.

Dot pattern much more reliable thanks to lamination in the film composite
And the manufacturer goes one step further: unlike market competitors, who apply the pattern to the outside of the window film in the final step of installation, HAVERKAMP has fully integrated the dot pattern in the new bird protection film into its multi-layer film. The enormous advantage: the pattern is weather and UV-resistant, and the film itself has integrated shatter protection - another decisive argument on the glass facades of buildings.

With other films, there is a risk that parts of the pattern will detach from the carrier film over time or fade due to the weather. This leaves gaps in the pattern, which can result in birds no longer recognizing the window front as an obstacle. HAVERKAMP eliminates this risk by incorporating the pattern into the film laminate directly during the production process. As a manufacturer with its own production lines, the company has every opportunity to further develop its products. The new HAVERKAMP protective film thus offers significantly greater reliability for bird protection.

Experience from 45 years of film development flows into the bird protection films
The manufacturer knows what it is talking about. HAVERKAMP has long been committed to the sustainable and bird-friendly construction of buildings with glass, was one of the first on the market to provide a highly effective solution and is in contact with nature conservation organizations. When it first became clear that - according to rough estimates - over 5 percent of all birds in Germany die on glass façades because they do not perceive them as an obstacle, HAVERKAMP began developing the product. As glass façades and large glass fronts on buildings have become an integral part of architecture, a solution was needed that could resolve this dilemma. "We have been developing retrofittable functional films for glass, among other things, for more than 45 years. And with our experience, we were sure that we could also find an effective solution for this ecologically important issue," explains Ulrich Haverkamp, founder and Managing Director of the company of the same name.

Combination with high-performance solar control film possible
The light transmission of the basically transparent film is retained thanks to the marking with discreet dots. Shatter protection and UV protection are directly integrated. The bird protection film is also optionally available as a high-performance sun protection film. This combination also provides a high level of heat protection and significantly improves the indoor living and working climate. Particularly in spring, the installation of bird protection film offers the opportunity to take additional preventative measures before the first heat wave.

The window films developed by HAVERKAMP can all be easily retrofitted without any structural changes - including the new birdsafe® bird protection film. The flat glass film can be installed quickly and easily on all glass façades and glazing, such as in noise barriers, bus shelters and bus shelters, office buildings or conservatories. Thanks to the special dot pattern, the birds can recognize the glass surfaces as an obstacle and fly around them.

Local installers wanted for installation
The new film is the latest HAVERKAMP development in this product segment. The manufacturer has already established several variants on the market and had their effectiveness scientifically tested in flight tunnel tests. As demand has risen sharply as a result, HAVERKAMP is currently also looking for processors who are interested in installing these films and becoming part of the HAVERKAMP partner network. The film manufacturer offers seminars and workshops for this purpose, in which installation and sales are trained.

About our bird protection films.

The new bird protection film from film manufacturer HAVERKAMP is transparent and the laminated dots each have a diameter of just 9 millimetres. This means that the pattern remains very discreet, while light transmission and transparency are retained.

Film expert HAVERKAMP integrates the dot pattern for bird protection directly into its film laminates during production. This guarantees greater reliability and durability and therefore also greater species protection.

The pattern of the new bird protection film is weather and UV-resistant. The film itself has integrated splinter protection.

Ulrich Haverkamp, founder and managing partner of HAVERKAMP, and his research and development department have developed a new generation of bird protection film for retrofitting, which is more reliable and durable than previous bird protection films on the market thanks to technical innovation.
