Privacy screens that can be switched at the touch of a button make everyday hospital life easier

Suitable for use in medical facilities

Privacy screens are essential for many areas of general nursing and geriatric care. This ensures privacy during treatments or basic care, ensures data protection in patient rooms and diagnostic rooms and is required in staff rooms or reception areas on individual wards for short-term privacy for hospital staff.

Classic variants such as screens, folding screens or curtains have proven their worth in medical facilities over the years, but offer little flexibility. Practical alternatives are required, particularly where privacy is only needed for a short time or for a short period. Curtains and blinds in front of or on the windows also darken the rooms and allow little daylight through.

Innovative solution for adjustable privacy screens researched
In order to facilitate and modernize everyday working life in clinics and other medical facilities, innovative solutions are needed that meet the high requirements for use in this environment on the one hand and are more flexible and practical to use on the other. The research department at HAVERKAMP, a film developer and manufacturer of retrofittable window films, has taken up this challenge. "We have been developing retrofittable functional films for glass, among other things, for more than 45 years. And with our experience, we were sure that we could also find an effective solution for this topic," explains Ulrich Haverkamp, founder and Managing Director of the company of the same name.

Transparent glass film can be switched to privacy protection at the touch of a button
The result is a switchable privacy protection film for installation on all types of glazing. The film has a frosted glass look and is switched to clear at the touch of a button. This creates the required privacy and desired view quickly and at short notice. Switching from clear to privacy and vice versa takes place within milliseconds using a button, remote control or app. The technology behind it is based on regulating the power supply. The film is appropriately named ClickFilm®. HAVERKAMP also offers this film as a reverse version. This version works in reverse to the standard film: it is transparent as standard and provides the desired privacy protection when power is supplied.

"Any glass wall, window or glass door can be subsequently coated with this film and then flexibly adjusted as required," says Haverkamp. "Whether on a neonatal ward, in a hospital room, in a diagnostics room or at reception - if a privacy screen is needed for a short time to protect data or privacy, the film can be switched on and off again quickly and easily."

Initial projects and certificates showHygiene resistance and other requirements are met
The film experts have already implemented their first projects in medical facilities. This shows that the film meets the justifiably high requirements for hygiene standards, disinfectability, risk assessment and resistance to cleaning in medical facilities. The use of ClickFilm® film in a hospital environment is harmless in this context, the manufacturer emphasizes. The smooth surface structure makes it difficult for germs to adhere. The film can also be cleaned with medical disinfectants or 75 percent alcohol. The manufacturer can provide technical data sheets and certificates.

Supplementary additional function: UV protection is directly integrated
The film has 99% UV resistance and has another decisive advantage over classic privacy screen variants in terms of the overall balance of the building: Due to its film structure, the switchable film reduces solar and UV radiation in the premises and is also permeable to daylight. This improves the indoor climate and has a positive effect on the well-being of patients and staff. The light transmission can be flexibly adjusted. The film is also available with segment switching on request.

Film production in Germany, installation without disrupting hospital processes
The film is produced in Germany, at HAVERKAMP's headquarters. "Discussions with project managers who are responsible for the construction and technology of the buildings have shown us that the question of installation is also relevant," says Haverkamp. "But here, too, we see only advantages for medical facilities. The coating of the glass surfaces with our films takes place without any major disruption to work processes and without any noise for patients or residents. And if, for whatever reason, the privacy screen is no longer needed, the film can be removed again without leaving any residue."

Qualification of installation teams
In order to qualify companies for the installation of switchable privacy film in hospitals and other medical facilities, the film manufacturer offers its own seminars and workshops, which conclude with a certificate of attendance.

To our switchable films.

Practical alternatives such as the ClickFilm® switchable privacy film developed by HAVERKAMP make everyday clinical work considerably easier, especially where privacy protection is only required for a short time or for a short period.
