Münster Entrepreneur Encourages Young People to Start Their Own Businesses and Offers Authentic Insights into His Professional World

Ulrich Haverkamp, founder and managing partner of the Münster-based company HAVERKAMP, shared very personal insights into the world of entrepreneurship during the “Careers in the Spotlight” event at Paulinum High School. The successful entrepreneur—who founded HAVERKAMP more than 45 years ago as a young pioneer and developed it into an internationally renowned, medium-sized driver of innovation—provided the students in the introductory phase at the Paulinum with vivid insights into his professional career. In a relaxed atmosphere, Haverkamp shared many personal experiences.

Open discussions about responsibility and the fascination of getting things done
And that’s not all: In a series of rotating discussion groups, Haverkamp also conveyed his enthusiasm for the challenges of being an entrepreneur and the creative opportunities that this role entails. He spoke openly about courage, responsibility, and the fascination of getting things done. “Success comes when innovative ideas are turned into meaningful, usable technologies that are implemented with courage and perseverance,” was his message to the young people.

Haverkamp knows what he’s talking about. During the RAF era in Germany, the company began developing security films for building glazing to protect against sabotage, vandalism, and break-ins, and over the decades has built up expertise in the market like hardly any other company in this industry. Today, as a medium-sized innovation leader, HAVERKAMP develops highly specialized security and functional films for building and vehicle glazing for worldwide use and manufactures them at its own plant in Münster. Security fencing rounds out the portfolio.

Inspiring a passion for technology and entrepreneurship in young people
“We know full well,” Haverkamp emphasizes, “that we can only ensure this top-quality ‘Made in Germany’ standard in the long term with the help of qualified young talent. That’s why it’s so important to instill in young people the ‘courage to take action’ and to foster enthusiasm for technology and entrepreneurship early on. For me, securing the future means investing today in the generation of tomorrow.” In any case, the students at Paulinum High School listened attentively and with great interest to his remarks. The lively discussions that followed showed that the message had gotten through.
