High demand shows: smart films from Germany are a viable solution for the future

November 2024

Focus on switchable films with a positive climate footprint

Light transmission in real time, year-round benefits and a positive climate balance: these arguments convinced the numerous trade visitors to the HAVERKAMP stand at this year's glasstec in Düsseldorf. With its latest smart-technology films for the building and automotive sectors, the film manufacturer from Münster in Westphalia has developed a real competitor to solar control glass and shading solutions that was well received.

Even industry insider Ulrich Haverkamp did not expect such great interest. It is undisputed that the range of switchable flat glass films he has developed is a real innovation on the sun shading market. The fact that the international trade public responded directly with such a high level of demand as at this year's glasstec is confirmation that the entrepreneur is on the right track.
This year, in addition to its entire range of films, HAVERKAMP also presented the latest switchable films for the first time. These not only make it possible to individually adjust light transmission and privacy protection, but also to manually regulate heat and glare. In order to transfer these properties to its film systems, HAVERKAMP uses various technologies based on power supply. The company has become increasingly specialized in this area in recent years.

Future-oriented smart living trend: light transmission can be controlled in real time.
The ClickFilm® Dynamic sun protection film, whose transparency can be easily and continuously adjusted using ISPD technology (intelligent suspended particle device technology), was of particular interest to trade visitors. HAVERKAMP has thus developed a switchable film whose light transmission can be individually controlled in real time. Unlike many other glare protection and shading solutions, the film is therefore useful all year round.
"In summer, I can virtually dim the sunlight from outside thanks to the individual control options. It even varies from window front to window front. The rooms remain cooler thanks to the sun protection properties of the film, the air conditioning systems are relieved and sufficient daylight is still possible," explains Ulrich Haverkamp, Managing Director of the company of the same name. "In winter, we then manage to reverse the benefits with these new films. I can tint the films individually and use the warmth of the sunlight shining in to save on heating costs. Where the low sun bothers me, I dim the films as much as necessary."

Glass industry and specialist glass companies show great interest in new film from Germany
A trend that is here to stay, as the high demand proves. The need for advice at the HAVERKAMP stand was so great that additional specialist advisors from the headquarters in Münster arrived. Representatives from the glass industry also expressed their interest, as the films can be integrated as interlayer films in glass laminates. This solution is also highly interesting for the automotive sector - for example as a possible application in panoramic roofs.
The fact that HAVERKAMP has been producing and finishing its wide range of flat glass and automotive films in its own plants at its headquarters in Münster (Westphalia) for decades makes the company increasingly interesting for glaziers from all over Europe who are looking for a European manufacturer of retrofit films. "This year's glasstec in particular has shown that many glaziers are looking for a reliable European film producer and are looking for alternatives to America and Asia," says Haverkamp. "With our many years of experience in film production and finishing, we are a real alternative for many."

glasstec 2024
For four days, Düsseldorf was the center of the global glass industry. From October 22 to 25, 2024, exhibitors and trade visitors from all over the world used glasstec, the international trade fair for glass production, glass processing and glass products, as a global industry platform. 1,257 exhibitors from 50 countries and more than 32,000 trade visitors from 121 nations took part this year.
